Project Information

Scope

A comprehensive redesign of Ava Connect, a healthcare platform in Calgary, Alberta that facilitates appointment scheduling and provides remote access to medical data, connecting patients and healthcare professionals.

Problem

The existing Ava Connect app posed challenges to users, particularly in navigation and the appointment booking process, resulting in confusion and frustration.

  • "The calendar is hard to use. I wish I could just type in the date I want."

  • “I tried to go back to the homepage, and I clicked this button on the top right only to find out that’s the log out button.”

  • "I can't find my doctor easily. It would be great to have a search option."

  • "I'm not sure what type of appointment to choose. The options are confusing."

Goal

Enhance the user experience by streamlining the appointment scheduling process, improving navigation, and making the app more intuitive and accessible.

Design Process

Designing with Empathy

Utilizing the insights I gathered from interviews, I created user personas, competitor analysis, empathy maps and journey maps to guide my design decisions. I also analyzed competitor apps like Zocdoc and Mindbody to identify areas where Ava Connect could excel. I then translated these insights into design solutions, iterating on wireframes and flows with user feedback. Finally, I meticulously crafted visual elements, culminating in a high-fidelity prototype that is both user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing.


Transforming the Experience

I then embarked on an iterative design process, constantly refining wireframes and prototypes based on user feedback. My goal was to create a seamless and intuitive experience that would empower patients to take control of their healthcare journey.

Key Improvements

Intuitive Calendar

The redesigned calendar allows users to easily select dates and view appointments in a clear and organized manner.

Streamlined Booking

The booking process was simplified, and terminology was clarified to eliminate confusion.

Enhanced Search

A doctor search function was added, making it quick and easy to find the right healthcare professional.

Clear Navigation

Improved icons and labels guide users effortlessly through the app.

Impact & Evolution

The redesigned Ava Connect empowers users with a streamlined appointment booking experience, clearer navigation, and improved overall usability.

Future iterations may focus on further personalization, advanced search filters, and integration of new features based on user needs and evolving healthcare technology.
